Fall Gardening Instruction (and free seeds!) @ Your Library

St. Petersburg, Fla. (August 19, 2015) – The St. Petersburg Library System, in partnership with the Childs Park YMCA and the Garden Club of St. Petersburg, provides a seed library at the Childs Park Community Library. In addition, the library is hosting a series of educational seminars by community and Master Gardeners who will share their wide knowledge of plants and growing techniques.

Starting August 22, the Fall Gardening sessions will be held on Saturdays at the Childs Park Community Library in the Childs Park YMCA, 691 43rd Street South. Each program will take gardeners of all skill levels through a fall planting season, from sowing through reaping and preparing a healthy meal from their harvest.  The seed library and educational workshops are free and open to all. Dates and topics:

Aug. 22, noon-1:00 pm: Soil Preparation, presented by community gardener Ray Wunderlich

Sept. 12, 10:30-11:30 am: Planting, presented by community gardener Bill Bilodeau

Sept. 26, 10:30-11:30 am: Caring for Plants, presented by Master Gardener Rocio Bailey

Oct. 17, 10:30-11:30 am: Harvesting, presented by Master Gardener Rocio Bailey

Nov. 7, 10:30-noon: Healthy Cooking, presented by Pinellas County Extension Service Family Nutrition Program.

Novice as well as seasoned growers have discovered the library offers not only a great selection of books and materials instructive in creating a successful garden, but is also providing vegetable and herb seeds for planting. Individual and community gardeners can freely access the seed library stock. A limit of one packet of each variety of seeds will be made available to gardeners.
