The Greenhouse Brings Ice House Entrepreneurship Program to St. Pete

June 1, 2015 – This summer, the St. Petersburg Greenhouse will begin offering a new program to help hopeful entrepreneurs learn to develop an entrepreneurial mindset. “Our focus at the Greenhouse is generally on technical skills and business training programs,” notes Sean Kennedy, Greenhouse Manager, “what’s unique about the Ice House Program is that it focuses on how entrepreneurs look at the world.”

The Ice House is an innovative and interactive program, created by the Entrepreneurial Learning Initiative (ELI) and sponsored by the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation. Using the book, “Who Owns the Ice House?” and interviews with real entrepreneurs from a diversity of backgrounds, the Ice House empowers participants to find success and teaches how to turn an opportunity into a business, even with limited capital. Through this course, students of all ages, education levels, incomes, and life experiences will learn to embrace a new perspective that opens opportunities for success.

The Ice House Entrepreneurship Program lasts for 8 weeks and will be held on Wednesday nights from 6 – 9 pm starting June 10 and continuing through July 29 at Pinellas Technical College (901 34th St. S., Bldg. 2, Rm. 1). It will be facilitated by Dick Pierce, with Eckerd College’s ASPEC program. The Ice House course costs $99, and graduates of the program will receive a discount on tuition to attend the BB&T Entrepreneurial Academy® in the fall. Ice House registration is available at

The St. Petersburg Greenhouse, which offers many classes and workshops for entrepreneurs and small business owners, has partnered with Pinellas Technical College and Eckerd College to bring the Ice House Entrepreneurship Program to St. Petersburg.
