Public Policy Chat with County Commissioner Bostock

Posted By Jillian Lusk, Monday, June 18, 2012

This morning, June 18th, members of our Public Policy Council and Board of Governors had a chance to sit down with Commissioner Bostock and see what priories she felt needed some more attention of the coming months.

Our conversation started off with Bostock running through the budget deficit at the County level. The County has a $1.6 Billion dollar budget and every year they work very hard to keep it balanced. This year new Legislation requiring counties to pay more for Medicaid coverage, the Commission is looking at different options to cover the gap. Bostock is against raising the millage if at all possible.

Other topics we discussed included:

  • EMS
  • Safe Harbor Funding
  • Transportation
  • Term Limits
  • Consolidations

It was a pleasure getting some time with the Commissioner in a smaller group setting. Thank you to Colliers International for hosting us in one of their available office spaces here in Downtown St. Pete.
